Description
Rooibos (pronounce roy-boss) is an indigenous herb of South Africa that is made from the fine needle-like leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant, grown in the Cedarburg Mountains. The slender leaves are cut to release their oxidizing enzymes, and then allowed to oxidize in the sun, producing an amber-red colour in the leaves. This extraordinary herb contains an abundance of antioxidants that help to prevent cancer, as well as the development of type II diabetes. Being naturally non-bitter, and caffeine-free makes rooibos a popular drink for children, and those wanting an alternative to black or green tea.
